Georgetown's Criminal Justice-Psychiatry Analysis Project

Georgetown's Criminal Justice-Psychiatry Analysis Project (GCJPAP) is a multidisciplinary study to be completed by the Georgetown University Hospital Department of Psychiatry at the request of the District of Columbia's Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC). GCJPAP is intended to review the current state of psychiatric/ psychological and judicial approaches to adults in the criminal justice system who have psychiatric conditions (including co-occurring substance use disorders). This analysis is designed to detect "gaps" in the City's approaches to this population and to recommend systemic remedies that will reduce these "gaps." The study will consider the District's current practices and will also consider exemplary experiences of other jurisdictions in making recommendations. The GCJPAP will produce a final report for the CJCC by September 30, 2006. The GCJPAP Project Manager is Sandra Perlmutter, and the Project Director is Avram H. Mack, M.D.
