Cerebral Blood Flow Center
Provides a complete range of noninvasive procedures to diagnose occlusive disorders of extracranial carotid and vertebral arteries as well as intracranial vessels. Services include:
- Ocular pneumoplethysmography
- Quantitative volumetric flow studies
- B-mode real-time imaging
- Carotid phonoangiography
- Continuous wave Doppler angiography
- Pulse gated Doppler ultrasonography with frequency spectrum analysis.
Certified Polysomnographic Laboratory
For the investigation of primary and secondary sleep disorders and sleep apnea.
Electroencephalographic (EEG) Laboratory
Is fully equipped to perform standard electroencephalography (EEG), closed circuit TV-EEG (CTV-EEG) monitoring of epileptic patients, topographical brain mapping of evoked and spontaneous brain activity, prolonged video monitoring and ambulatory cassette recording.
Electromyography (EMG) Laboratory
Offers electrodiagnostic tests to detect various neuromuscular and peripheral nerve diseases, including Charcot Marie Tooth, ALS, myasthenia gravis, and botulism. Tests include nerve conduction studies, standard needle electromyography, and single-fiber recordings.
General Neurology Clinic
Provides new evaluations and ongoing care for all neurological illness or complaints.
Headache Center
Evaluates and treats complex and chronic headache. Each patient receives and interdisciplinary assessment and an individualized treatment program based on the latest advances in headache management. Emphasis is on coordination of resources and continuity of care.
Memory Disorders Program
Provides a broad range of diagnostic, management, and treatment services to people with Alzheimer's disease and memory disorders associated with aging. The clinic offers a variety of diagnostic techniques, including neuropsychological tests, blood and urine analyses, clinical trials of new medication, and other research aimed at treatment and diagnosis.
Our program includes one neurologist, three nurse practitioners, three research assistants, one program coordinator, and one administrative assistant.

Movement Disorders Clinic
Provides comprehensive diagnostic evaluation of patients with Parkinson's disease and related movement disorders. Therapeutic research protocols include dietary control of Parkinsonism, and the role of sweeteners and other foods in the control of Parkinsonism.
Neuroimmunology Center
Offers diagnosis and treatment of neuroimmunological disorders including Lyme disease, multiple sclerosis, Stiff-person syndrome and Paraneoplastic Syndrome.
Neurology Toxicology Laboratory
Provides comprehensive analytic testing of blood and urine for presence of drugs and substance abuse monitoring.
Neuromuscular Center
Offers patients with neuromuscular disorders comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, including biopsies of nerve and muscle, and therapeutic research protocols. Physical therapy and occupational therapy services are available thorough the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (as well as genetic counseling). The clinic is supported by the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Neuro-opthalmology Services
This service treats patients with visual disorders due to neurologic diseases and is headed by Dr. Benjamin Osborne. Patients are evaluated in the outpatient clinic (PHC Building Tuesdays 8 a.m.–12 p.m., Wednesdays 12 p.m.–5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m.–5 p.m.) and the inpatient neuro-ophthalmologic consultation service.
Disorders that are commonly seen include, but are not limited to: optic neuritis, papilledema, diplopia, myasthenia gravis, multiple sclerosis, thyroid orbitopathy, idiopathic intracranial hypertension and nystagmus.
In addition to a comprehensive neuro-ophthalmologic examination, we perform computer automated perimetry, optical coherence tomography and treatment of diplopia with prisms.
An essential component to this program is teaching residents of the ophthalmology and neurology departments, and medical students.
Neuropsychology Services
Assess cognitive, perceptual, and motor skills in the evaluation of brain functioning. The Neurology Department provided neuropsychological assessment of adults with a wide range of neurological and psychiatric conditions.
Serological Laboratory
For Lyme disease and myasthenia gravis testing, as well as specialized assays for anti-acetylcholine receptor antibodies.
Sleep Disorders Center
A fully accredited multidisciplinary facility with a comprehensive program to evaluate sleep disorders such as insomnia, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and impotence.
Stroke Center
The Georgetown University Stroke Center has been certified by the Joint Commission as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center and has been recognized by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for achieving the highest levels of quality of care.
As the leading academic stroke center within the nation’s capital, the Georgetown University Stroke Center provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for stroke and cerebrovascular disorders. Multidisciplinary care is provided to ensure that patients receive state of art evaluation and management with access to cutting edge new treatments and research protocols.
The Georgetown Stroke Center is staffed by a team of specially trained neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, intensive care specialists, emergency department physicians, experienced nurse practitioners, and rehabilitation specialists. They have instant access to the most powerful tools available, including advanced diagnostic brain MR and CT imaging. The team is trained to act as rapidly as possible to give the patient the best possible chance of stroke recovery. The physicians in the Georgetown Stroke Center are nationally recognized leaders in their fields.
The program is fully supported by the latest technology, including new brain perfusion and noninvasive vascular imaging equipment. We use the most advanced surgical and microsurgical techniques available today, including intraoperative angiography, microvascular surgery, and carotid endarterectomy.
